A woman has been praised for her innovative show of support for a Planned Parenthood clinic in Portland, Oregon, after she broke up an anti-abortion protester by chanting the words: “Yeast infection!”

Mary Numair, a copywriter, 29, works near the Planned Parenthood clinic, where she had received treatment for yeast infections and UTIs when she was in her early twenties and did not have health insurance.

She saw the anti-abortionist protesters gathering outside the clinic for a number of weeks, holding signs reading “abortion kills children,” and decided to take action.

“Planned parenthood is a vital resource for so many people,” she told Buzzfeed News.

Ms Numair made her own sign – decorated with drawings of hearts, vaginas and a stick woman with large breasts - that read “Dear P.P. Thanks for helping with my yeast infections!” and stood outside the clinic, chanting “Yeast infections!” while doing high kicks.

After a while the anti-abortionist protesters formed a prayer circle. But when one woman broke from prayer to face Ms Numair and shake her head at her disapprovingly, the copywriter said to her: “OMG do you have a yeast infection? I know who can help you!”

The protest eventually broke up after 20 minutes of Ms Numair’s tactics, who then proudly tweeted: “Hey I just single-handedly broke up a planned parenthood protest by chanting the words ‘yeast infections’.”

Ms Numiar’s actions have been met with pun-filled praise online, with supporters calling her “speculm-tacular,” a “va-genius” and sending messages such as “yes we candida!”.
